New for 1999: The Lumina
remains primarily unchanged for the 1999 model year, with a new
exterior color being the only
addition.
History: Introduced as
a 1990 model in 1989, the Lumina is Chevrolet's version of General
Motors' GM-10 midsize car platform. A thorough redesign for 1995 resulted
in a quieter, stiffer body structure and improved interior ergonomics.
Nearly three-quarters of Lumina buyers are married, and Chevrolet
reports that half of Lumina buyers cited the car's very attractive price
as the primary reason for their choice. The Lumina occupies the top
rung of Chevy's sedan ladder since the departure of the Caprice full-size
sedan at the end of 1996. In 1998 Chevrolet added the optional OnStar
system, an advanced mobile communications package that combines cellular
phone and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technologies.
Model years: 1990-94, 95-98
Trim Details: The 1999
Chevrolet Lumina is available in three trims: Lumina (base), LS, and
LTZ. Safety features include
dual airbags, child safety locks, daytime running lights and an
anti-lock brake system (ABS),
which is optional on the base model. A 3.1-liter
160-horsepower V6 engine is
standard on the base and LS, while the LTZ upgrades to a
200-horsepower 3.8-liter V6.
Standard features include air conditioning, power door locks, a
theft-deterrent system, a tilt
steering wheel and an AM/FM stereo. The LS upgrades with a
stereo cassette system, cruise
control and power windows. The sporty LTZ adds a rear
spoiler, 16-inch aluminum wheels
and unique front and rear fascias. |
