New for 1999: The 1999 Chevrolet Metro remains primarily unchanged from last year's model.

  History: Known as the Geo Metro since its introduction in 1989, the Metro was shifted to the  Chevrolet nameplate when the Geo brand was discontinued after 1997. The sub-compact  Metro was redesigned in 1995 and joined by a 4-door sedan that same year. Over one-third of  Metro buyers are making their first new-car purchase, and a majority of Metro buyers are  women. The Chevrolet Metro is among the highest-rated in the EPA's fuel economy tests. The  Chevrolet Metro is built in Canada by a joint venture of General Motors and Suzuki, and is also  sold as the Suzuki Swift. 

  Trim Details: The 1999 Chevrolet Metro is available in three trims: Metro (base) and LSi
  2-door coupe and LSi 4-door sedan. Safety features include dual airbags, daytime running
  lights, available anti-lock brake system (ABS) and child safety locks (sedan only). The base
  trim has a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine, while LSi trims get a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder. Standard
  features on Chevrolet's least expensive model include a center console with dual cupholders,
  Scotchgard protected seats, a folding rear seat and all-season tires. The LSi trims upgrade
  with intermittent wipers, a trip odometer and body-side molding. Air conditioning, a rear
  window defroster and a variety of stereo systems are available options.
