New for 1999: The 1999 Sebring
convertible adds a new Limited package that includes unique alloy wheels
and interior appointments. Select coupes are available with matching body-color
mirrors and wheels.
History: Though they share the
name, the Chrysler Sebring coupe and convertible are two very
distinct automobiles. The coupe, first introduced in 1995, is sporty and
stylish but has a back seat big enough for two adults. It is built on a
variant of the Mitsubishi Eclipse platform. In 1997 the coupe received
a minor face-lift that included the front and rear fascias, a new grille
and new body-side cladding. The Sebring convertible, on the other hand,
is built on a unique platform developed from the outset to be a convertible,
with stiffness and reduced cowl shake in mind. Introduced in the spring
of 1996, the Sebring is America's best-selling convertible.
Trim Details: The 1999 Chrysler
Sebring is available in four trims: LX and LXi coupes, JX and JXi convertibles.
Safety features include dual airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS) (optional
on coupes) and optional traction control (JXi only). The LX features a
standard 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the JX get a 150-horsepower
2.4-liter engine as its standard power plant. A 2.5-liter V6 engine powers
the both the JXi and LXi, which is optional for all other trims. Standard
equipment includes fog lights, a rear window defroster, air conditioning,
variable intermittent wipers, cupholders and courtesy lights. The JX adds
power windows and door locks, while the LXi and JXi upgrade with a remote
keyless entry system, power mirrors, and a theft-deterrent system. The
JX and JXi feature a power top with a glass rear window. |
