New for 1999: Regal has improved
in a number of ways for the 1999 model year. The LS gets both an increase
in power as well as a sportier suspension. Other enhancements include improved
traction control and anti-lock brake systems, and availability of the optional
Monsoon premium audio system.
History: Buick introduced its
sixth-generation Regal on the World Wide Web—which
indicates this car's target market: men and women in their forties who,
according to Buick, are much younger than the typical Buick buyer. Introduced
in spring of 1997, this totally redesigned Regal—available only as a 4-door
sedan—replaces the variant of the GM-10 platform introduced in 1988. Its
maker refers to the Regal as a sport sedan, a point emphasized by its simple
lines, lack of chrome trim, and non-availability of a bench seat. Regals
were originally 2-door models, the most famous of which was the turbocharged
Regal GNX coupe—in its time one of the fastest production cars available
in the U.S. While the 1999 version does not aspire to such an honor, the
supercharged V6 used in other Buick models is also available in the Regal.
Model years: 1988-92, 93-96, 97-98
Trim Details: The 1999 Buick
Regal 4-door sedan is available in two trims: LS and GS. Safety equipment
includes dual airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), child safety locks,
daytime running lights and traction control. The LS is powered by a 3.8-liter
200-horsepower V6 engine, while the GS gets a more powerful supercharged
version of the V6, producing 240 horsepower. Standard features on both
trims include air conditioning, cruise control, fog lights, remote keyless
entry, a tire inflation monitor, and an AM/FM stereo cassette system. The
GS upgrades with a black grille, leather seats, a power driver's seat,
driver-selectable shift control and 16-inch aluminum wheels. |
