New for 1999: Buick makes a
number of improvements to the Century for the new model year. A tire-pressure
monitor and traction control are now standard on both Century trims, and
the 4-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) is enhanced. A more refined suspension
and a new standard sound system also improve Buick's entry-level model
for the 1999 model year.
History: The Century model name
has a long history at Buick. It first appeared in
the late '30s to emphasize the car's advertised top speed of 100 mph, an
unusual feat for cars of that time. In 1997 the Century received a ground-up
redesign to replace a model that first appeared in 1982. Buick describes
its products as "premium American motorcars," and the new Century's design
reflects the character of its Buick siblings. Buick sees its customers
as people looking for cars that are modern and American in character, yet
readily identifiable as Buicks. Model years: 1988-96, 97-98
Trim Details: The 1999 Buick
Century 4-door sedan is available in two trims: Custom and Limited. Safety
features include dual airbags, an anti-lock brake system (ABS), daytime
running lights, traction control and child safety locks. Powering the Century
is a 3.1-liter 160-horsepower V6 engine teamed with a 4-speed automatic
transmission. Standard features on both trims include air conditioning,
power door locks and windows, a rear window defroster, remote keyless entry,
intermittent wipers, and an AM/FM stereo. The Limited upgrades with dual-zone
climate control, heated mirrors and a body-side accent stripe. Leather
seats, alloy wheels and an upgraded stereo are available options. |
