Originally called Blazer when
it debuted in 1969, the Tahoe nameplate was adopted with
the vehicle's redesign in 1995, partially to help differentiate it
from its compact sport-utility sibling, the S-Blazer. According to
Chevrolet, buyers of the 2-door version tend to be married males
around age 40, while families choose the 4-door. Most Tahoe buyers cite
the vehicle's size, which is 31 inches shorter than Chevy's Suburban,
as the reason they chose it. The 1998 model year was one of safety
enhancements, with the availability of a new AutoTrac full-time four-wheel-drive
system and the OnStar mobile communications system. In February,
Chevrolet began building the 1999 Tahoe, however the 1999 is identical
to the 1998 model.
The 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe is
available in four trims: 2-door and LS 4-door, each with 2WD or
4WD. The Tahoe comes with dual
airbags, a 255 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine, an anti-lock
brake system (ABS), variable-assist
power steering, daytime running lights, dual 12-volt power
outlets, and an AM/FM stereo.
Optional LS and LT trim packages feature cloth bench seats
(LS) or leather high-back bucket
seats (LT); power lumbar support; power windows, door locks
and mirrors; a leather-wrapped
tilt steering wheel; and cruise control. |
